WHAT LIBERTY DO WE HAVE IN CHRIST?
Many Christians say that we have "liberty" in Christ to do as we wish, though not all we do will be "profitable". On the contrary, I contend that there are limitations on what we can and cannot do, and our liberty is of a different nature.
Galatians 5:13 -- For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
(Our Liberty in Christ cannot be used to sin - sin is still prohibited. What does an occasion to the flesh do? Hint: Check out Romans 8:13)
1 Peter 2:16 -- As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
Romans 6:
6. Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7. For he that is dead is freed from sin.
(Part of our liberty is a freedom from sin)
Romans 6:18 -- Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
Romans 8:2 -- For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
1 Corinthians 7: 22. For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ's servant.
The truth rings again and again -- We are free and liberated so we are more able to serve our King. We are FREE FROM SIN
The Bible also talks about other liberties given to use in the New Testament, such as that of the eating of meat, celebrating different holy days, circumcision, etc.
